I had had a Bichon, who passed at 17 1/2 years and vowed never to allow another dog to own my heart.
Several years later my dh decided to give me a hand written gift certificate for a yorkie (I had always wanted a yorkie but because of my kids got a Bichon instead as I worried about size). About 6 mo later I got Bubba.
A woman I knew ran a large dog rescue and knew I had Bubba called one day and said she had a 5mo yorkie that someone she knew had given up to her due to family problems. I agreed to look and saw an underweight, scared, wet (she had thrown up in her car) little girl. Do you think I could refuse to take her?
I took her and took her to my vet, who wasn't thrilled with her condition. She was pounds underweight, had a bad case of ear mites and a week or so later found she had tapeworms.
Under all that was a beautiful little girl. She is not according to standard but who cares. She is 11lbs, has one ear up and one down, one of her teeth hangs over her lip (my daughter lovingly calls her snaggletooth) and she, on rare occasions, uses my oriental rug as a giant potty pad.
So, I had no time to think about getting a second one, it just happened and I'm so glad it did. She is my shadow.
