If they've vanished then they are most like breeders or brokers. Most disreputable breeders will say a pup is older than it really is to make it seem like it'll be smaller. If you got her at 8 weeks (by what your vet said) and the original owners said they are "a family that was too busy to have a dog" how long could they have had the dog to discover that? They are lying to you that's for sure.
