I crate-trained Tibbe for about a year in that whenever he was tired or I was not actually able to have him right with me to watch, he was put in the crate, which normally coincided with him being so tired he would nap while in there. The rest of the time he was out living his life. But nights, he slept with me after the first 2 weeks I had him. During that first 2 weeks, he slept in my bed in his small carrier with my fingers sticking through the door and his chin on them. After that, he slept with me and has since. I think the reason some people have trouble with housebreaking is they give up on it too soon wanting to give their baby more time out of the crate.
