Congratulations. I have Nikki who was found on the streets about 3 1/2 years ago and is now estimated to be about 17. An elderly lady adopted him and then had a stoke and couldn't have him so I took him in. We know nothing of his first 13-14 years. He is also vert possessive of me. The day he came here he decided his place was right next to me on the bed. If one of my girls comes by him many times he will go for them. Luckily he doesn't have teeth. If I reach for him with out alerting him first he will go to bite me. Some times when I am kissing him he will all of a sudden bite my nose.He also will not want to move sometime and when I try to get him to he will get grumpy. Not knowing their past, we have to assume they have some past trauma that makes them more skittish and defensive. I try and always say his name before moving him or touching him to give him warning. With Nikki, a lot of the problem is he is nearly blind so I think he is easily startled. This is my first rescue also so I don't have much experience but others should be able to give you some insight. I am so glad he found you and your GF. |
