Rescues often accept donations to help with the cost of caring for their pups. It sounds like this person was stealing the donations.
Donations made to REPUTABLE, legitimate rescues are usually tax deductible and these groups are required to make all financial records available to the public. I'm not familiar with this person/group so I can't comment on the type of donations that may be involved here.
So sad. This hurts all rescue groups who truly are doing so much good.
