LOL, thanks everybody. Rusty is the only big dog routinely allowed at the little-dog meetup because he's so gentle. He grew up with Yorkies and hasn't gone a day in his life without Yorkies around.
But as we were walking away on leash out of the park, we strayed too close to that tiny little maltese, and he nipped Rusty's nose. The Maltese owner was horrified, but it was just a scratch. It was a good lesson for me. Once they get on leash, they tend to be a little more protective and dominant.
