The instructions said to score the meat and then poke holes in the meat with a fork, so the marinade would penetrate. They did not get any marinade directly. As a matter of fact, I took their meat from in between the two the grilled outer sides. And I even sucked the juice out of a few pieces to make sure they weren't getting any of the marinade.
