LOL, your captions on this and the other picture crack me up!
It was a case of an immovable (in his mind) object running into an irresistible (he likes to think so) force.
Eddie would never back down to Rusty, and Rusty is too proud (or clueless) to change his path to spare bossy Eddie. So this was a collision, with Eddie forcing Rusty off the trail and paying the price for it.
This doesn't happen often because both of them would casually avoid the situation if they had time to think about it. I'm thinking Eddie saw Rusty at the last second and decided he was going to teach him a lesson in manners.
