When Piper was about 6 months old I was concerned that she was developing a roach back. Found out a month later that Piper was walking hunched because she was in pain from Legg Perthes. She had surgery and after healing was complete the roach back was gone. Pain can cause them to walk with a hunched back. Maybe the cracking sound you hear is causing pain.
