It happens to the best of groomers...but they should have told you they cut the nail too short and not to walk him for 24 hrs...once it clots and that takes 10 full mins, if the dogs does not run around or walk too much it will not bother the clot.

If it ever happens again...the vet is not necessary...just press a paper towel with Quik Stop on it for 10 mins...repeat if necessary. I had a Doxie lose an entire toe nail and it only bled for about 5 mins...not gushing...just a steady drip and the Quik Stop worked...then I bandaged it. I do not bandage a too short nail...needs air to heal faster...

I do not think the vet should have billed you...and I would go elsewhere and tell them why if they do not reembruise you.
