It should work, especially going room to room with a leash. Just stay calm and sure of yourself while you do it. I know this sounds silly, but it helps me to keep saying in my head something like, "I'm in charge, I'm the pack leader, these are the rules and you're going to follow them" lol, that self talk helps you give off the right "energy" to your dog so they'll be confident in following your rules. It shouldn't take too long to get him to understand since it's a new issue he's having that he didn't have before. It's probably just stress related (maybe either from the vet stay itself or a little bit of pain he had following the surgery) and helping him to remember that you are in charge should get him to relax back into his usual self
