The use of Ultrasonic scaling is the norm and has been even 25 years ago when I did dentals as a tech (under vet supervision).
A Board Certified Dentist will be more expensive, but may not be neccessary for routine cleanings, baby tooth extractions, or simple adult tooth extractions.
I truly believe that routine dental work (cleaning, polishing+preventative included, and minor extractions) shouldn't cost over $300-$350, done by a regular vet. | $350 for bloodwork, anesthesia, IV, monitoring, a cleaning, xrays AND extractions? Hmmmm
