I have a chihuahua, Bitsy, that is 2 3/4 lbs. and a Yorkie, Brooke, that is 3 1/4 lbs. and I worried when both of them got spayed!! It is normal to be worried. Make sure that your vet has done tiny dogs or kittens before. My vet said, "Nanci, I spay rats, I think I can spay your dogs!!" That made me feel better. She only made about a 5/8"-3/4" cut and used her finger to loop the fallopian tubes and bring out the sex organs. I watched the surgery with both of my girls and Bitsy had a benign cyst growing on her ovary, which was the size of a grape. It was a good thing she was spayed. Make sure they are using Isoflorane gas, which is a bit more expensive but usually a vets first choice now. I wish you good luck with your baby, believe me it is harder on us that it is on them!! |
