We have hawks here, but common sense takes over for me and I'm by my baby's side regardless if I see a hawk or not.
I'm all for defending yourself and God giving dominion over animals, however it's like going into an ocean and blaming a shark for attacking you. No offence, but you went into the hawk's territory. You're in the country, his turf. Therefore, you are the one responsible for making sure your baby is safe in his turf.
The hawk was doing what his instincts tell him i.e. small prey = food. Also, I was reading the story and noticed that you said the hawk flew into a tree. So, if I come a swinging down from your pine tree and look at the Yorkie, are you going to shoot me as well?
A little over dramatic, but still. Use your brain! I hope the DNR doesn't slap your ignorant butt with a fine for killing a protected species, but hey may it'll teach you a lesson.
Take some responsibility into your own hands, watch your baby while in a rural area (duh) and hope to God a snake, you know the snake that the hawk could have caught and killed, doesn't go after your baby.
