I work in a large class action litigation law firm in NYC. I just spoke to one of the attorneys that I work with and she said that yes, pretty much most firms/lawyers give free consultations. After you have a free consultation, as Kimberly recommended (which is a GREAT idea in my opinion), you can represent yourself at small claims court for a small fee.
