Doggy Doors (IMHO) are invaluable, but, there are some very well
informed and concerned Users here, who have mentioned situations
which could give one pause.

If you, or anyone would like to read the "discussion" on those issues...

All in all, being informed is the best way to go.
I read the thread in your link and I do have to ad that our doggie door is only open when we are home and I do keep a constant eye on them when they are out if I'm not already with them...which I usually am. We also have a security light on the side of the house that I turn on at dusk and leave on until we go to bed...even then I go out when they do. Once we head for bed or leave the house the doggie door gets locked. Also, during the day if I have something to do in the house where I can't watch them...like laundry or shower...I close the doggie door so they can't go out unsupervised.

Mine use their door to go out and potty...join us in the yard when we are out and for short trips for fresh air...other than that they are inside with us. A doggie door can be a useful addition...providing it is used properly. We have had doggie doors for years, even when we lived in Florida, we never used them recklessly and we've never had any trouble.
