I agree, you need Frontline to break the life cycle. I've been using it for many years, it's very safe as far as these things go.

Another trick for getting them out of carpet - buy a "flea collar" at a pet store, cut it up into a few pieces (wash your hands very well afterward) and put the pieces into your vaccuum bag or canister. After you vaccum, let it sit for about 20 minutes or so. That should kill most of them so they don't make their way out when you dump the vaccuum canister.
