Interesting thread. I am just *bored bored bored* with today's music. But, I've been bored with it for quite a while. The last time I found it interesting/engaging was the early-mid 1990s when Nirvana was around...the Seattle music scene exploded and there was this huge burst of creativity and originality. The music itself (and lyrics) were just interesting.
Then...by late 90s, here came the boy bands and the pop music and ugh, I checked out. One of my biggest music peeves is the whole genre of a 'singer' who only lip synchs -- and then dances all over the place. However, as the audience - we're supposed to believe he/she IS singing, while also dancing like crazy. Anyone ever try doing that? Yeah, doesn't work. This type of genre goes along with the current trend of auto-toning people's voices too...and I dunno, it just seem to unauthentic to me.
I will always love music from the 60s, 70s, early 80s (REM, Pixies, The Replacements..), early-mid 90s.....but now I just feel like I can't get on board w/ anything

.
On the subject of music, what do people think of Lady Gaga?
