Oh, you're so nice and kind, you didn't straighten her up--is better to ignore people like that

I think that they are so bitter they can't stand someone being loving and kind to someone else, let alone to "just a dog." She should pray she doesn't get dementia, it's a really sad thing and not having someone to at least symphatize with the challenges that disease brings, is terrible.
Just remember that for every one ignorant, mean spirited person that you meet and make comments like that, there are 100 that totally get you
