when you cut a yorkies hair you are not getting rid of old hair, you are just making the hair shaft shorter. Think of it like your own hair. When you get a haircut and tell the stylist to just trim up the dead ends you are just cutting off the ends of the hair, not taking out of hair so new hair can grow. Yorkie hair has a long growth cycle which is what allows it to grow so long, compared to a lab or pug with a short growth cycle. that is why they shed when you just look at them. Yorkies do shed but they shed more like people do and you only really see a few hairs in the brush when your grooming them.
