I keep Sophie Kate cut short all over but will get what my groomer refers to as a "hygiene" cut between grooms.

Also I keep baby wipes handy and after we go out if I see a mess I wipe her off with a baby wipe. Also baby wipes work well for she has "stinky dog" smell, a quick wipe will clean her up well.
