Default Heavy coated pup

Like other newbies..I have been reading the site for a long time and am frankly humbled by the knowledgeable people here. Have a question about coats. My little girl Bailey is almost 7 mo. old and has a heavy coat. Never mats and is a joy to groom and bathe. I take her about every other mo. to the groomers for the extra things they do, but each time I have taken her the groomers want to "thin" or cut her coat. Before Christmas when I had her in last I really pinned the groomer down as to WHY she thought Baileys coat needed thinning. She said it really was hard on a pup to have hair any longer than 1-2 in. below the belly and suggested I let them shave her belly.lower chest and trim the hair on the top of head shorter. She said this was the "normal" routine for little yorkies to have just a thin skirt of hair while young and no topknot. She did say the coat was in excellent condition, not dry (yea) While I agree that longer hair is harder to maintain am I doing wrong letting her hair grow for now? Is this groomer just not wanting to deal with the extra time it takes on a longer coat or is she correct?? She has the odd baby coat..kind of silky/cottony..straight..doesn't mat. She is brushed daily and loves it. Hair is about 2" from the floor (from her belly)and the black shoulder hair grows to the floor on her feet (I round off her toes so hair looks neat) Do you keep your babies short until the adult coat comes in?? If this is a dumb question..I apoligize..but our adult boy has a silky thin coat..never did have this heavy coat she has so I have never hit this before. I understand her adult coat will be very different but its wonderful to have this beautiful coat for the time we have it even though she looks messy most of the time...but goodness they are persistant about cutting it!...I use Petsmart and except for the suggestion of shorter thiner coat..they do a fine job.
