Default Biting and stage fright!

What's up with Elvis' behavior?! I'm confused about a couple of things and perhaps the more experienced owners can help.

First off, Elvis loves to play bite. At least I think he's play biting... Sometimes he just slowly bites on my fingers and I move them away and say "no!". Other times he lunges towards them like he's on the prowl and lets out a slight growl as he's doing it. Is he trying to bite me for real??

Second, he doesn't mind being in his crate when he's in it, but when I open the gate for him to come out, he hesitates. He'll come out a bit as I call him, then when I put out my hands for me to pick him up, he goes back in like he has stage fright or something. Though when a stranger does it, he comes out! What is the deal??

Please help!

Thanks,
Nick
