Of course the OP would know if the dog is prone to issues, however, if the dog is regularly groomed professionally, a groomer automatically checks and expresses if necessary and may not even tell the owner. And yes, an issue can arise, when none was there before. And may only require expressing once and never again. But, if one suspects an issue, it's not something I would sit on, get the dog to the vet's to have it checked.
