Yorkies are prone to dental disease and it seems to me like the smaller the muzzle, the worse the teeth can be! My Tibbe was really wild when I first got him and fought me when I started to try to brush his teeth! But little by little we worked up to it and now he gets his teeth brushed almost every day and a full dental cleaning as the vet determines, every 12 - 18 mos. It keeps Tibbe's breath smelling nice and his gums healthy. Takes about 2 minutes out of my day and the payoff is huge.
Tibbe had very, very bad breath when I first got him and had double rows of many teeth, 1 decayed tooth and bad, bad gums so I don't want my little baby to ever have to go through bad dental disease again. Just be patient and work a little at a time each day until it is accepted. If you want, I can PM you my technique but it is not hard at all.
