I agree that these people aren't your friends. No true friend would ever say anything so hurtful.
I think that you should put your pictures back on your desk. If it makes YOU happy, then you shouldn't worry about what anyone else thinks. They are the ones missing out on the unconditional love of a dog. Who gave them the right to judge you and what makes you happy?
