No, I do not think that his childish, mean-spirited reaction is a likely response to a note. Sounds like this guy was being vengeful - no
note should elicit that over-reaction. Maybe he hates women or small dogs or something and that's the real root of his prob. But if you do approach him face-to-face, take along a male witness.
