I would let the white pieces fall down by her muzzle rather than pull them up with the topknot
As her hair grows in, it will probably become more obvious where the "divide" is, but there can be some "training" of the hair involved to get it to lay down flat. Once this happens if you accidentally pull one of these pieces into a topknot, it will be so uncooperative you'll realize your mistake pretty quickly in my experience!
