My little Jilly never would accept a puppy that I got. She took to the back of the couch and basically lived there away from the puppy for 90 days, stopped eating, lost a great deal of weight, lost hair and began chewing her ankles. I've always had dogs in my life, most of them rescues, handled very aggressive/biting dogs, wild dogs, nursed very injured/sick dogs, rehabbed freightened/nervous dogs - you name it, with great success. None of the things I tried to get Jilly to accept the pup, Teddy, worked. I read and tried every technique recommended for new puppy introduction. Jilly detached herself from our life and would not re-engage until, 90 days later, I found Teddy another home. She immediately returned to her old self, eating, playing, loving me, etc., once she was "only dog" again. Don't know why this one situation went awry but it did. I think 99.9% of dogs eventually come around and learn to live with, if not love to death, a second dog and I'll bet yours will, too.
