My clients tell me that when they take their pup(s) home, the pup(s), usually, sleep for the next 24 hrs....I only keep one family at a time, because I have 3, but there's always alot of motion and activity, when we have boarders...He's probably just tired, and needs to catch up...However, I'd really fuss over him, and tell him how wonderful he is, how much you missed him, and you're so glad to be back w/him, just in case he's got his little nose a little put out of joint...He may not understand the words, but he will understand what you are saying
