I agree with the others that a vet check is in order and consult Karen at AllDogBoots. Bag Balm worked on Max's cracked paw pad last summer.
Be careful not to do anything or put anything on the pads that will soften them (no lotions or oils, for instance). The pads were intended to be rough for protection.
