I immediately called my husband outside in hysterics, trying to pull my dogs away from the snake (thank God they are well trained and listen), and my husband proceeded to chop the snake with a shovel. I used egg shells around my fenceline because I heard they hate slithering over those, not sure if that worked but I haven't seen another one yet. I searched the yard, plugged the holes I found in the ground (displacing a few frogs ), and removed the wood pile that may have served as a "come hither" to the snake.
*Note: I live in front of a HUGE farm where all manner of snakes reside in peace according to the farmer and farmhands. I got the ole "This is Texas little Lady, everything is bigger and more dangerous!" lol | I live just up the road from you, New Braunfels. We get the chicken snakes (harmless) and rattlers (not so harmless) out here.
