If it was a rat snake, garden snake or black snake it was harmless. They eat the rats and mice etc.
I have heard you can tell if a snake is verminous by looking at its eyes.. if it has a vertical pupal it is verminous. LOL... like I am going to look in its eyes.. too busy running
