It's a dominance thing. Mine did the same thing, and my vet told me that. Practicing "leadership" exercises with him will make him accept you as dominant and stop trying to be dominant himself. I learned what to do in obedience school, but it's hard for me to explain. You hold up the puppy in the air, and lay him on his side, make sure he waits for you to walk through doorways first. I'm not very good at explaining how to do it...
