We have a chihuahua that weighs 6lbs. This is within the standard but so often people will look at him and tell me that they or someone they know has the cutiest "tea cup" chi. I am always very polite,but tell them, although the term "tea cup" is a well known term it is not an AKC recongnized standard. I get to educate them and at least send them away thinking.
It is interesting that what used to be considered a "runt" and unacceptable is now a "tea cup" and what was considered a "mutt" is now considered a "designer breed". I dont get it.
My first dog (many years ago) was a poodle that weighed in at 2lbs. She was purchased for me as a gift and was less expensive due to her size. I was told by our vet to enjoy her because she wouldn't see 5yrs,she passed at the age of 13yrs. She was my one true friend as I went through the teenaged years. |
