Did you see Dr. Oz on his show the other day with the piece of pasta and ice? It stiffened the pasta and it became hard. He used heat on the pasta and it became pliable and soft. He said our muscles are like that pasta. Ice is usually just for trauma and to reduce damage, though it is good for some nerve pain. Moist heat will loosen up your neck and shoulder muscles and allow good blood flow to rush oxygen and other nutrients from the blood into your muscles, relaxing them and reducing swelling in the process.
