Most of the breeder/exhibitors that I know have the dogs DNA'd the moment they know they are going to keep a dog in their breeding program. Many are now having the females DNA'd. Doing very easy on AKC inspectors to identify litters.....no slipping in a non AKC registrable pup in with a litter that is AKC.
Many AKC inspectors will DNA a litter, dam and sire to make sure that their registration is correct. |
Okay, so this is used as a pracaution to help ensure that oh let's say, a silky terrier or something hasn't really sired a litter of pups claiming to be from a Yorkie? Well, in some instances I suppose. As it states above a breeder can volunteer a DNA sample to keep track of the parentage of each said litter too. Correct?
You see, I just thought about going ahead and sending my girl's papers in and saw this and thought, hmmm that's interesting. Before I came to YT I as so many, knew NOTHING about BYB'ers. Now that I have all of this useful info and seeing that her sire was DNA'd I feel as though she may have come from a mill. I mean her breeder said he just breeds his pet Yorkies, but I am just beginning to think he is using these/this particular dog ALOT for breeding. I am ashamed of having purchased my baby girl this way, but didn't know better at the time. I am just nauseated over all of this. The bright side is that so far, she is healthy and happy..Oh, and I have learned a TON since and WILL NEVER go about getting a pup this way anymore! Thank you ladies again!
