While it is somewhat voluntary, it is required if a stud sires so many litters in a year and I think 7 in a lifetime.....

Most of the breeder/exhibitors that I know have the dogs DNA'd the moment they know they are going to keep a dog in their breeding program. Many are now having the females DNA'd. Doing very easy on AKC inspectors to identify litters.....no slipping in a non AKC registrable pup in with a litter that is AKC.

Many AKC inspectors will DNA a litter, dam and sire to make sure that their registration is correct.
