Hi and welcome!
I am a new mom too and my baby is also named Lexi. Funny enough my Lexi was very picky when i got her from the seller as well. The seller gave me a bag of the dry food she had the puppies on after she weaned them and I just continued feeding Lexi the same thing. But she stopped eating it... so i switched to Wellness (which gave her loose stool) and she ate it for a few days and after that refused to eat that too. So I bought another food and she just turned her nose up at it.
I read alot of bad reviews on dog food before i got Lexi and initially decided I would cook for her. So after many failed attempts of feeding her the dog food, i bought ground turkey, and brown rice, diced up carrots, broccoli, fresh basil and potatoes very small and cooked everything together in a little olive oil. Lexi was very hungry at this point and she ate it all up. She has been on this diet now for almost a month and will not eat anything else.
I work during the day so what I do is make enough to last a week and every Sunday I re-cook. Her stool is healthy and has virtually no smell, she is very happy with this diet. She gets excited to eat.
It can be a sacrifice to take this route but in the long run it is worth it. One of the many benefits is that you know what isin the food you prepare and you know your dog wont suffer from skin problems and other issues as reported with some dog food diets.
I also have nutrical for her (which she loves). Usually what I do is give her a teaspoon of the nutrical after i feed her in the morning and this keeps her sugar levels good until I come home to feed her for lunch.
Good luck! |
