That's what I was thinking also. Any vet should have in-house lab machines capable of running a standard Pre-Op panel or if you want to be really carefull a CBC/Comp and it only takes about 10 minutes for the results. That's all you need prior to undergoing anesthesia. You are definatly right for insisting on it though since anything can change in a year and dentistries typicaly can take a while (much longer than a spay) so they are under anesthesia longer. Just a side note - if your vet can't do in house blood work (not sure if that's the case), you may want to consider a new vet. If there was ever an emergency and you needed lab work fast, that could pose a problem.
