My Moe has skin issues and had a terrible yeast problem in his ears when we first got him.

Our vet took a swab from within his ears and a skin scrape before she did anything else. Afterwards she flushed his ears, gave us ear drops, oral* & ointment steroids, oral anitibiotics, and a prescription shampoo. We had to go back for a recheck several times (no office call charge - only products). His skin got better right away but his ears had to be flushed again and she gave us an ear flush to use.

We also tried the grain free Merricks dry food but we didn't see any noticable difference after using it for several months. Unfortunately, we resumed using Science Diet.

But yes, I prefer a vet to run some tests prior to taking any action. There's just too many things that it can be. No sense in treating them for something they "might" have.

Hope your baby feels bette soon. It's so hard to watch them be miserable.

*if I remember correctly - the oral steroids were only for a few days to help jump start the antibiotics
