They're not worried about their "alpha status"... they're most likely just playing. That's a good thing. When my moms dog was still alive, and Jackson was a pup, they played like this ALL the time:
The yelping, etc, (so long as they are not getting seriously injured) is all a part of dog communication. I think it's so important for a young pup to learn from an older dog because they teach them their boundaries and proper doggy 'respect' I guess. If the pup bites too hard, the older dog will yelp in response, and eventually the younger dog will learn what is the right/wrong way to play.
Try walking them together to tire them out

Exercise = a happy calm dog.
