yorkieusa is quite correct, Possums will return, in fact, we see "ours"
almost each evening between 9-10pm. BUT, there's a reason for that !
We put out food for it (and some other transients as well) we enjoy
having the wildlife visit us, ans as I said, they do a service as well.
IF a Possum or other "unwanted" (from your point of view) is visiting you,
there must be a reason for it, and, possibly you can remove that reason
and cause it to change it's route, for a more beneficial area to it's
existence.
Check your yard thoroughly, do you have a source of water or food
that it would be interested in ? Usually, when those two do not exist,
you won't have a "regular" visit, not to say that there won't be an
occasional investigation, but, it will be infrequent.
Secondly, Possums are NOT aggressive animals. YES, when you happen
to confront one, he'll try to scare you to death (successfully I think)
given your report in a previous post ! But, they would much rather
retreat and avoid a conflict.
They do not see well. That can be advantageous to you, should you
choose to actively attempt to "encourage" it not to feel welcome.
Do you have a few Tennis or Golf Balls ? You can throw one/several
of them at it,
not to hurt please, but it sensing there is some movement
close to it (the ball hitting a bush or whatever) will make it think that
some aggressive force is close, and it will leave. Do that enough,
and you'll win, as long as you've removed the "attraction", whatever
that may be. The next day, you can recover your Balls, loading up for
another possible encounter. Understand, you don't have to step away
from a protected area too far, to launch your attack on it.
