I've found some really thin flat elastics to do the top knot then I clip a french barrette or alligator clip through the knot to secure it . It does take a lot of practice but she's so patient with me
The rubberband ones get tangled in her hair and it either pulls her hair out or i just end up having to cut them off which seems wasteful to me.
