I use the bows with the alligator clips.
But I do put a band in Beamer's hair first, then I put another one in about an inch away from the first one, then take a third band and I fold the topknot down so the second band meets the first band, and I put the third band around it (forms a "puff"), Then I put the bow in.
Strange I cannot handle putting in the bows with the bands on, but have no problems putting the bands in first and then putting the bows with the alligator clips in.
