She did say yesterday she went through the AKC site, and found one breeder who just had her first litter

To the OP: go back to the AKC site and click on show information, then your state, and you will see the upcoming shows for your state and there maybe conformation shows in your area comiing up. Then go to the show and meet some Yorkie breeders.

Guide to Finding a Reputable Breeder

The above article may cover some areas you already know, and some that you may not have thought of before.

Now in terms of this being an AKC members first litter. I think what is very important to know is this person's history in the breed. How long was she "in training' so to speak. How many champions has she finished? Who is her mentor? What breed clubs she belongs to? How active is she in the dog world? Does she train in obedience and or agility? Does she support rescue, and in what ways?

What are the goals of her breeding program? What are her lines?

How knowledgeable is she about this breed? Does she know the top 10 health concerns of Yorkies, and does she know the health of her lines?

What specific pre breeding tests did she have done on her breeding pair?

You mentioned that your Yorkie 7 yrs old died of a rare deformity of his epiglottis? I'm interested do you know the name of this condition? Also did the vet say this was a genetic condition? And finally did you let the breeder of this pup know what happened to your beloved 6 yr old Bogey?

Now I know sometimes in this "instant" society where we can go to a large supermarket and get that loaf of bread we want today, it is difficult to wait on a quality puppy.

The axiom here is often cited as : you buy your breeder first, then your dog.

Here there are many knowledgable and passionate Yorkie folks, that can help you assess a breeder, who may know personally about their lines and or their reputation, and of course we have breeder reviews which quite often bring to light breeders of less than stellar reputations.

Welcome to YT and wish you much luck and fun finding your perfect pup
