When I asked our vet's partner for an alternative to Rimadyl, he explained to me that all meds have the potential for negative effects and the reason Rimadyl may seem to have a significant number of negative reports is that it is widely used.
In other words, if med A is prescribed 95% of the time, it is likely to have a greater number of negative reports than med B prescribed 5% of the time. Admittedly, this vet is an advisor for the manufacturer. Max has been on Rimadyl 3 times for pain management with no problems.
