I live in Wisconsin, and like the others said, it gets COLD in our area during the winter. I sure wouldn't want to go outside to potty when it's below zero for weeks on end....
Both my husband and I have to work all day as well. It's nice not having to worry about accidents if we can't make it home on our lunch break or need to stay late at work.
Once it warms up this spring, I'll train her to do both (outside & pads). Hopefully she'll just use the pads when we are not home and have us let her outside when we are not.

I thought it was a little odd at first too, but I've found it's not as uncommon as one would think... My husband's aunt, step-grandparents and mother have their small dogs (Pugs, Yorkie & a Westie) trained to use potty pads as well as go outside. My aunt also has her Cockers trained to do both.
