Aww, poor Oliver. One of my friends here reminded me that it often better to make light of things and distract our furbabies, rather then comfort them when they are scared because this reinforces the idea that there is something to fear. I did this with Max and he isn't bothered by thunderstorms. With every flash and crash, I would happily say "ooooh, look at that!" or "wow, that was loud, how about that?"
With Teddy, I comforted him and he is still scared. He will play fetch or do tricks for treats during thunderstorms. I am going to focus on doing those things in the future.
