This happens to Lucy when she has mushy poop - usually a sign of a little stomach upset for her.
Her regular poops are perfect little tootsie rolls that do not stick to her hair.
If I do find some on her hair - or dried (like cement) back there; I just put her in the bathtub with some warm water running over her butt - that usually gets it off pretty quick and painlessly. (I use Latex gloves if I have to work it out with my hands).
*No, this is not one of the most fun things about owning a dog***
I can usually tell when she has something stuck back there because she acts terribly depressed; just moping around .. until we get it taken care of.
